I loved puzzles as a child. I loved seeing all the pieces spread out on the table and the feeling of accomplishment when I completed the puzzle, resulting in a beautiful image. Guess that is why I am a personal organizer and designer. I love to pick apart the pieces of a space, see what works (and what does not), then put them back together for a beautiful result.
I will be starting a new series called “Anatomy of”, where I will break down spaces in your home and give you tips and tricks to help you maintain them. Just like the anatomy of the body, there are many things we need to work on and maintain to keep it healthy so it functions correctly.
I am going to start this series with…The Anatomy of the Closet! I will break down the clothing closet, piece by piece over 6 weeks, so that each week you can work on one aspect of your closet. It’s less overwhelming that way. As I always say, never think about the end result, look at each part of the project, piece by piece. We are going to do that and the end result–a well organized and loved closet.
Week 1: The Heart- Tips for Tossing
Week 2: The Brain- Order in the closet
Week 3: The Bones- The Fold & Hangables
Week 4: The Personality- Shoes & other accessories
Week 5: The Pretty Face- Décor: The closet is a room too!
Week 6: The Transformation & Raven’s Top 5 tips to maintain your newly organized closet
Now, everyone’s closet is obviously different and you only have the space you have. Embrace that! Don’t wish for a bigger closet, use exactly what you have and LOVE it. I will give tips for big closets and small alike. I personally wish I had one of those beautiful closets that looks like a boutique, like the photo above from The Container Stores’ TCS line, but I (like most people) only have two small closets for clothing. I am going to be doing this process with you. I will show you before and after shots of my personal closet on week 6, the transformation, to hopefully inspire you. You will be surprised how much you can transform and love even a small closet space. I encourage you to each week do your closet with me. Use whichever tips work for YOUR space!
First up… Tips for tossing. Check back on Thursday for your first closet to do list, that you can start this very weekend!
