While doing my Anatomy of a Closet article, I decided I wanted gold accents in my closet decor. I recently changed all the hardware in my kitchen to this Dolin Knob:
So I immediately started searching for the same brand in the style I needed. I found the perfect hardware!
However, it was not within my budget, nor did they have the size I needed. I used a closet system from Home Depot and it was a very odd hardware size. Alas, I might have considered going over budget for these, but I certainly needed the correct size, no way to get around that! Rather than settling on different hardware and compromising my vision, I did a little DIY magic. If you plan to install new hardware in your kitchen, you need to choose the right adhesive for kitchens.
I found this knock-off on my Amazon prime that fit the bill.
AND… It was cheaper than the original hardware would have been. That’s right, $22.99 for 10, vs $13.41 each. Yes, that was EACH! I needed 5. So even ordering a larger quantity than I needed, I still came in $40.23 cheaper! I purchased a $4 can of gold spray, rolled up my sleeves, and got to it! HOW TO:
- I unpacked my box and made sure that all the screws fit the pulls! If you purchase this brand, take the time to do this, as one of my sets the screw threads were a little weak. Luckily, since I had extra, I was able to let that one go.
- I live in an apartment, so I have to spray inside my parking spot, and needless to say, I am not allowed to get paint ANYWHERE so I have strict instruction to follow to make possible this https://www.internetvibes.net/2020/11/13/process-of-home-renovation-should-and-shouldnt-spend-on-when-renovating/https://www.internetvibes.net/2020/11/13/process-of-home-renovation-should-and-shouldnt-spend-on-when-renovating/. So I use a little trick when I spray by putting the items inside a box to ensure I won’t get spray on any other cars or the concrete. This trick actually came in extra handy on this task, as I was able to screw the hardware into a box, like this photo, then drop the hardware into my spray box. This allowed the hardware to stay upright so I could spray all sides evenly with very little mess. Make sure you leave the screws loose enough to flip side to side just a little bit so you can make sure to get the underside the pulls.
- Shake your gold spray paint very well. Take the time to do light even strokes to avoid dripping and running. After a couple passes, the hardware looked amazing!
- I left the hardware in the box to dry for 24 hours and wala!
Check back this thursday for my Anatomy of a Closet decor article to see the before and after of my closet drawer unit with these AMAZING gold pulls now!
