With one of my oldest and dearest friends in town for a holiday visit, we decided to pop a bottle of champagne on Christmas Day. I decided to have some cocktail fun and play with some recipes using the champagne. I have been wanting to start a cocktail series, “With a Twist”… just taking my usual go-to simple cocktail recipes I use all the time, and adding my own little twist of course! Plus, since the New Year is less than a week away, I thought sharing these champagne concoctions was perfect timing.
Here are 3 fabulous champagne cocktails to ring in the new year. I used 3 different base liquors, so anyone can enjoy the flavoring of their favorite liquor of choice.
TEQUILA COCKTAIL:
This Tequila number truly is my go-to cocktail. A basic gimlet, using Tequila. My recipe without the champagne is amazing, but topped with champagne… WOW! The champagne is just the right addition to this classic, easy gimlet for such a special occasion.
Serves 1:
1 oz tequila
1/2 oz fresh lime juice
1/4 oz simple syrup
Top with champagne
Directions: Add all ingredients (except champagne) into a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake the mixture and pour into a champagne flute. Top with champagne and serve. Garnish with a lime.
GIN COCKTAIL:
I shared this cocktail recipe at halloween because I used champagne for a few of my signature cocktails for that party. It’s a twist on the classic french 75 recipe. It’s worth sharing with you again because this is a fabulous cocktail to ring in the new year.
Serves 1:
1.5 oz gin
.75 oz lemon juice
.5 oz St. Germain
splash of simple syrup
Top with champagne
Directions: Fill your cocktail shaker halfway with ice, shake the gin, lemon juice, St.Germain, and simple syrup. Pour into champagne glass. Top with champagne. Garnish with lemon peel.
VODKA COCKTAIL:
I am not much of a vodka drinker, but it tends to be a lot of my friends’ choice of liquor. So, I did play with a vodka recipe to share with you.
.75 oz vodka
splash of grenadine
splash of simple syrup
.25 oz fresh lemon juice
4 oz champagne
Directions: Add all ingredients (except champagne) into cocktail shaker with ice. Shake the mixture and pour into champagne flute. Top with champagne. Garnish with lemon Twist.
I hope you have fabulous New Year’s Eve plans, and will be ringing in the new year with lots of laughter, friends and loved ones! Cheers to a happy new year!
